Principal Ron Woodard dedicates Maplewood High School’s new fitness center, calling it “an amazing opportunity for students, faculty and parents.”
MLK Magnet School’s new fitness center boasts new flooring and commercial equipment
Dane Fitness and YMCA of Middle Tennessee teamed to provide new fitness centers for two Nashville schools. Both MLK Magnet School and Maplewood Comprehensive High School consist of greater than half economically disadvantaged students.
Says Dr. Ron Woodard, principal of Maplewood High School, “There has been an unaddressed need for wellness in our community for a long time. This is doing something about that.”
The idea behind the new centers is to provide wellness for students and faculty and parents, not just student-athletes. “This space will be for everyone,” says Dane Burks, owner of Dane Fitness. His company donated equipment and space renovation for both schools.
Dr. Tina Bozeman, PE and Wellness Teacher at MLK Magnet School, says the new center and equipment will instill being physically fit in her students so they carry the desire into adulthood. “I want to provide my students with knowledge and skills to be fit for a lifetime.”
